[Okay, that's a lie. She just knows better than to get anything other than breakfast at this diner.]

[When she arrives, Skye quickly goes inside to get out of the bitter cold air and tries to get as much of the snow off her shoes on the mat as she can while looking around to see if Peter was there yet or not. If he wasn't, she'd grab a table for them.]

[Peter is actually there, when she comes in! Back home he was very, very, very used to being late somewhere — thanks to... you know — but here? Here, he has plenty of time to get out. Too much time. An aching amount of time. He's preoccupying his time by going through the Fluid, trying to keep up on whatever new information's getting out there. He's used to tracking so much stuff, it's weird not to.

But when she walks in, she's quick to focus is attention up and offer a smile.]

Hey, city girl!

Glad to see the snow didn't get to you.

[Turning in the direction of his voice, Skye smiles back. There have definitely been worse nicknames people have given her.]

As if the snow would get in the way of my love for diner food.

[Pulling off her hat, Skye tucks into her coat pocket and shrugs that off before taking a seat across from him.]

How're you doing?

[It's been a minute since she's last seen him, and a lot has gone on here.]

[He blows out a breath, shaking his head.]

The holidays. But somehow way more stressful than I remember them being.

[He gestures a hand to her, smiling.]

How about you?

Yeah, well, this place seems to have its own way of 'celebrating' the holiday season.

[Smiling when he asks how she's doing, Skye shrugs nonchalantly.]

Yeah, alright I guess.

[Clara may have played a part in the holiday season going a lot nicer than it would have otherwise gone. When the waitress comes over to ask what they'd like to drink, Skye asks for a coffee black. Once she got Peter's order and left, Skye turns her attention back to Peter.]

Did you end up at that new store that opened up? Stacy's.

[He'll get the same, even if coffee is a grave danger to him. Makes him all energized and all that jazz. Guess it's better than wandering around sadly. He blows out a massive breath at her inquiry and looks plenty exasperated.]

The nighttime deathstore?

... Might have visited a few times, yeah. What the hell is up with this place?

[He knows there's no decent answer, but you know. Gotta ask anyway.]

Right?! It was like Black Friday on crack when I went in there the first time.

[Skye knew it wasn't just her who had experienced that either.]

When it's not the Royal Rumble in there, they have some pretty cool stuff. Still would be nice to see more things from home though.

[Looking over the menu again when the waitress comes back with the pot of coffee, Skye is still debating what to get.]

What are you going to get?

Yeaaah... I guess they prefer for us to ask nicely for our things. With those, uh. Little baskets.

[He laughs a little, though, shaking his head and glancing down at the menu.

(Even though it pretty much had his mind dead-set on something from the get-go.)]

I was thinking... a plate of pancakes. Like 10 of 'em. So tall I'd definitely have to take some home.

[Smiling at him laughing, Skye reaches for her coffee to take another sip from it.]

You're telling me you can't finish all 10 in one sitting?

[He's a big guy so she has her doubts.]

I'm thinking french toast. Or maybe waffles... I'd be risking it if I ordered a burger, wouldn't I?

... I mean, I can. I just didn't want you to look at me like I'm a slob.

[He grins.]

I think ordering a burger here is a special kind of competition. A 'can I even eat half of this' competition, like on Fear Factor.

Yeah, well, no judgment here.

[Skye has been known to pig out on more than one occasion. Wincing at his comparison, Skye decides to just go with the french toast.]

That big? Or that awful?

[He laughs.]

That awful.

This place seriously can't cook things from the lunch or dinner menus to save their everlasting souls. You'd think I was the one cooking everything!

[Skye pouts briefly because, well, who doesn't enjoy a good burger? But then the waitress comes back to take their orders. Skye decides to go with the french toast, and while she for sure can't eat as much as Peter, she orders two orders of it.]

How did those pictures come out by the way? The ones with those fairies.

Oh, right! They came out really — pretty.

I mean...! Everything in them is pretty. Yes. The — all that. Totally awesome shots.

[He's just gonna. Start drinking eagerly on his coffee thanks.]

I can totally get you copies if you'd like. There's a place here that develops film, so I got them all done there. I meant to send you yours, but... aaah. Holiday funk, or something. I don't know.

[Skye can’t help but smile at the way he suddenly fumbles over his words. Although, it does take her a minute to realize he was calling her pretty. Not wanting to embarrass him even further, Skye reaches for her own coffee.]

I’d love to see them. Can’t be too sure without proof but it seems like you know what you’re doing.

[Placing her mug back down on the table Skye barely has to make eye contact with the waitress before she’s getting her mug refilled. Thanking her, Skye then leans forward to rest her arms on the table.]

So. How long have you been into photography?

[He chuckles at that.]

I can be hit or miss, buuuut I do my best.

I actually worked on a paper in New York — back when I was younger, I handled photography there. My boss was a real pain and I didn't make a whole lot, but it was a living.

So you worked at a newspaper when you were in college for biochem? That's impressive.

[He couldn't have graduated that long ago either, he looks to be around her age.]

Biophysics, actually! It kind of covers a bunch of stuff. [He starts counting off things on his fingers, casually, the words long and playful.] Organic chemistry, calculus, biology — electricity and magnetism... General biology stuff... It's not a specific field, but it helps keep my options more open, at the moment.

[A pause.]

I'd go for a round two with college, buuut... I'm kinda in debt.

College tuition is a real drag.

[Smiling in amusement when he lists everything off, Skye leans back in her seat again. Looking over in the direction of the kitchen area briefly to see if their food was being made before her attention is back on him.]

Yeah, I wouldn't know.

[She sort of regrets admitting that, even if she isn't that ashamed of dropping out. It was the right thing for her at the time.]

You'd probably have a lot more to talk about with these people I work with back home. They're way more science-y than me. It's like they're speaking a different language.

Hey, no shame there. Plenty of people do just fine without it.

[Considering how his jobs go after college... well.

Yeah, anyway. Too serious to think about.]

Who did you work for again?

[Skye hesitates to answer because despite not being official or anything, she still feels the need to protect SHIELD's secrets here. Only a few people know and that's because they are also aware of it back home.]

I worked for myself.

[Which isn't a lie, until she was taken in by SHIELD. She tries to make it sound as dull as possible in the hopes that he doesn't feel the need to press for more info, even if he's just trying to make conversation.

Saved by the food. Moving her cup of coffee out of the way she thanks the waitress after she places their food on the table.]

This is one of the very few reasons being stuck here isn't always the worst.

[He rubs his hands together, giving a little smile.

(Even if he wonders about that obvious shift in conversation; he sees you, Skye.)]

You mean the fact that I don't have bills to pay and I make actual money to afford pancakes?

You bet.

Right? This place makes me feel like I'm easily middle class for once in my life.

[Is it really a joke when it's the truth? Getting a forkful of food, Skye practically makes into her seat.]

I could live off of this.

[~~At one point she's literally done just that.~~]

[He blinks up at her owlishly, mouth full of pancakes.

... Gulp.]

... Really good.

[Wow, wait, is half the stack on his plate already gone???]
